Due to the
stigmas and fears associated with the all-too-often dreaded credit score, this
article should perhaps be titled "When Credit-Building NEEDS TO BE Your
First Priority". The brick-by-brick, tedious and (let's face it) sometimes
unpleasant process of rebuilding one's credit score seems to have many people
in a constant state of procrastination.
The problem with
procrastination is that it ultimately leads to even more financial blunders in
the future. This is why it is of the utmost importance for the individual going
through current financial woes to avoid the procrastination and frivolous
spending. Look instead at what you can do to build up and protect your credit
now so that you have a brighter future. There is a light at the end of this
tunnel!
So when exactly
does the time come that an individual needs to put on the figurative horse
blinders, look the ugly credit score dead in the eye, and deal with it in the
appropriate manner? The answer is incredibly simple: as soon as possible. The
bottom line is you won't get anywhere continuing in your state of
procrastination and fear. This process is a positive one! It is much worse to
be completely idle in choosing to do nothing to build up and protect your
credit score and financial reputation.
The first step is
to research your credit score. Yes, it sounds scary. No, those companies are
not always "free" as their advertising might suggest. Yet, it is
vital that you know your credit score so you know the damage and know how to
better assess and remedy it. Who knows, maybe your score is better than you
think? Either way, you will never know if you don't check it out.
The second step
is to budget the things you deem to be necessities. This list should ideally
include food, water, gas, housing and utilities. While you're at it, CUT UP
THOSE CREDIT CARDS! Use only liquid forms of money so that you can be assured
you are living within your means.
